  • From Raven and Logan 3/07: Izzy Pop

    Dr. Sherle,

I just wanted to write you and let you know how happy we are with our puppy. Michelle named her Izzy Pop and I will be sending in her registration this week. Izzy and Gravy, our black lab, are already getting along great. She seems to have made a very smooth transition and is a very quick learner. We have already fallen in love with her, and could not imagine her not being a part of our family. Thank you so much for everything. We look forward to hearing from you in the future. I attached some pictures we have taken of her. I will continue to send more to you.

    Thanks again,

  • From Raven and Logan 3/07: Willie Bear

Dear Sherle, You might have already guessed, we are in love with Willie Bear. He really does sometimes just sit when we are walking him until we call and make a big fuss about him, then he comes running (with a smile on his face) He has one ear up and looks very cute. He is getting along great with the other dogs, but Willie is still sleeping in the house. He is extremly smart and cuddly, sits beautifully, try to get tangled up in our feet, doesn’t mess in his inside crate. We are reading the book about puppies written by the Monks of Skete, very interesting. I’ll send you some pictures soon of Willie. Thank you for raising a great puppy.

  • From Raven and Logan 3/07: “TURBO”

Sherle, I wanted to share with you a photo story/video of Turbo. I also wanted to let you know how pleased I am with him. He is definitely what I was looking for in a German Shepherd. At the young age of 6 months, he has tremendous drive and is turning into a great working dog already! I know that he will become a top performing sport dog in the competitive obedience ring and protection ring. I will begin competing with him in these two venues in the Spring of ’08 at the Service Dogs of America trial. Turbo also has the great temperament that I was looking for in a dog – he is the Total Package! Sherle, thanks again for helping me to select just the right puppy for me. Enjoy!

  • Update 5/31/08:

Hi Dr. Thompson. Here are some pic’s of Thor. He is now two years old and 103 pounds. He has been swimming since we got him and now he is a boat dog. He gets walked at least 6 and some times ten miles a week. He is very gentle with our other pets and is always fun to be around The product we use to get him in and out of the boat is called doggy dock. A little spendy at $ 350 but works great! I have one or two different views of Thor on mu iphone and send them latter. You can see Thor using the dock on you tube at the address above. If you can’t see it let me know or go to you tube and search doggy dock.

Here are a few pictures of Thor learning to kayak. This was his first time out after practicing to sit in the kayak for 2 week on dry land. He is doing well and is a wonderful dog.

  • Hi Dr. Thompson,

Here are some current pic’s. I will call you in November about X-Rays. His weight was 49 pounds yesterday. He just completed his first 8 classes of obedience and will have 5 additional session at the intermediate level. When the instructor wanted to demonstrate something he always used Thor because he the quickest dog to learn and do.

    Sherle,

I have attached a few photo’s of Big Boy, he is a wonderful puppy. We are going to try and make it up there for his three week shots, if we don’t I will let you know.

    Have a Great Day!

  • From Raven and Logan 11/04 “Solomon”

    Hi Sherle,

Here are the pics I promised to send. Solomon is a wonderful dog, and we are having so much fun with him. He is completely housebroken and crate trained. He loves to travel with me, and sleeps in my bed. We are working on several basic commands, and he is doing very well. Somehow, he is even capturing my husbands heart…who doesn’t like animals in the house. Oh well!

I don’t know what happened to the little sweet puppy. Something clicked after he made himself comfortable at home, and he is very feisty. Along with that, he is very very verbal. I’m very familiar with the GSD whine, but this dog can hold a conversation with you. He fusses with me just like a teenager. I’m not kidding! I’ve never seen anything like it. He makes me laugh all the time. He has quickly got over his phobia of the dark, but is afraid of Daren’s bus and anything that is large and white…go figure?!?!?! Anyway, he just finished his vaccines today, so I will get him out even more and expose him to as much as possible. I’ll send another e-mail about Solomon & Daren with their pics. Please watch for it.

  • For Everyone else:

I would like to tell you and everybody how pleased I am with Beckham. From the time I brought him home He has presented no problems, has demonstrated his loyalty and eagerness to learn and his complete trustworthiness in crowds and around people and children. I live in an apartment complex and he has been a good citizen playing with the neighborhood kids and showing off his intense ball drive and athletic ability. As important as genes, the attention, interest, and care Sherle has shown after I got Beckham, has been superlative. I am in the process of buying a second pup, a full sister to Beckham from her and I would highly recommend her as a breeder and consultant for any of your German Shepherd questions and/or needs!

    For Sherle:

    Hi Sherle,

Just want to update you with Beckham. He is a wonderful dog and companion. He is just past 2 year of age and is perfectly trained and behaved. His reason for life is chasing the ball and frisbee. He is not aggressive and ignores other dogs and people. He condescends to be petted by neighbors and gets along with kids very well. and is a fine owner of two cats. He is an apartment dog and is content to protect it and allow people in with my permission. He could not be a better dog in temperament and deportment. I feel so lucky to have found him.. He doesn’t seem to have any physical problems. Nor any psychological ones…… He is a fine dog and I feel lucky to have him.

    Regards,

Just sending you a new photo of Laynie. I had the mule in the front yard doing some yard work. Both Tori and Laynie love to ride around in the mule. They would sit there all day if I let them. I called this 2 ladies on a Sunday drive.

  • Sherle,

Amos is doing great and still has my wife wrapped around his paw!!! He has some much energy that sometimes I forget how old he really is. He really is a big lap dog when my wife is around. He stays within about 2’ of her when she is around the house. He is about 80 lbs and solid muscle. I think he would have been an excellent work dog but my wife just could not part with him long enough to teach him some manners. His ball drive is so strong – that is all he wants to everyday, all day. He continues to insist on your undivided attention and play ball non stop.

  • Sherle, Nikko is doing great. He gets so many comments about how good he looks. Club members love him. I have turned down 3 offers to buy him. (Can’t have my dog).

He weighed 49lbs. at the Vet today, @ one week away from 5 months. Training is going great. He plays hard and knows when it’s time to go to work and loves it. Very attentive to what’s going on. Absolutely loves the water. He can’t walk by a running hose or any water without getting in it, and loves to ride. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of team we are going to be.

Thanks again for a great dog. I have attached some recent pictures.

  • Thank you so much for helping us pick out the right puppy. Nikko is definitely part of the family, and he is really enjoying his new pack. He is so fun to be around. By far exceeding our expectations with his training; brilliant dog. He is going to do great. He loves to play tug and has good ball drive. Very attentive, loves to ride and he goes everywhere with us (that he can go). Potty training is going pretty good. He still has a few accidents, but that’s more our fault than his. He likes “HIS” crate and will go to it for Nikko time to rest. He draws a lot of attention wherever we go, and does great around people and other dogs.

Took him to the vet today for his shots and checkup. He weighed 22Lbs. We visited and will be joining the Schutzhund club we talked about. I’m excited to see what kind of team we are going to be. Attached are a few pictures.

  • Hi! Just wanted to send an updated picture of Nash (Joey). We just celebrated his birthday on 2/7. He is doing fantastic but my husband wants to call you soon with some training sessions. My husband is an outdoors guy and he likes to target shoot at cans and stuff and Nash likes to stand by his side until he shoots a can and it falls then Nash will chase after it. He loves to smell/sniff the ground while he is outside also. He stays inside with us, however he spends a lot of time outside with my husband and I. He still loves children and gets along great with our nephews. He is a great dog! I attached a picture from is birthday, I bribed him with the tennis ball and some treats to get that hat on him!!

  • Jax turns a year old next month. He walks off lead, is great w kids and other dogs. He fearless in new environments. Travels great. No problems hanging in downtown Charlotte or spending a night in a hotel rm. Jax is the perfect family dog.

    - Moira/Joschi
  • Jax is wonderful…all puppy and Shepherd! We need to do some work on walking on a leash as he is a puller but otherwise he’s great. Easy to housebreak, no problems with being in his crate or outside kennel. Very friendly with EVERYONE and likes all dogs…even tries to play with the bears in our back yard! Active but not too active and his little boy behaviors are fairly easy to correct. He seems to enjoy every ones company but hasn’t really attached to any one person. No health problems….. Oh almost forgot – he is HUGE. I think he is going to be over 100 pounds and he is absolutely beautiful. He isn’t showing many protective qualities yet. He is very verbal and appears to try to talk to us but doesn’t bark or become concerned when people come into the yard or to the door. I’m sure that will change as he matures.

  • hat would be fine. Jupiter Sage is now Jake. We are enjoying him. We get a lot of comments when we are out and about with him. Last week he weighed about 41 pounds. But he still needs to grow into his ears and feet. His energy level was not what I expected. He can get wound up but he can also settle down quickly which is nice. We have an Aussie that is submissive and he can become very focused on her. When he gets excited and is playing he can get mouthy. He also likes to chew on things. He likes empty plastic water bottles that make a lot of crunchy noises. We have to be careful because outside he will pick up small stones to chew and eat.

We are starting a beginner obedience class this week. I am looking forward to it. He has been doing well with the basics we have already started on. He is fairly responsive, but he definitely has a stubborn and independent streak. I would be interested in the results of the temperament testing you did with him.
Health wise he is doing fine, although he has gotten car sick several times when my wife has taken him on car rides.

Again we are enjoying him, and need to come for a visit and training. I need to send you some pics.

  • Hope all is well with you. Jessie dog is an AWESOME girl…I can’t tell you how many people stop to ask questions about her and tell me how beautiful she is. We were at Starbucks in Wisconsin Dells over the weekend and three separate people got out of their cars to admire her…..

She is a fearless girl. Likes running through tubes already (the kids have a little fabric crawl through thingy and she’s does laps in and out of it). My concern is that she will jump over things in her way, and she has already mastered the stairs. She barrels up the stairs an down the stairs without a hesitation. I try very hard to slow her down….. Other than that, she is learning quick. She is very good at sit-stay. I already can walk a few feet away and wave her favorite toy in her face or drag it in front of her, all it takes is a few No’s and stay and she won’t go after it. Sit and down are pretty good too but haven’t really gotten to the correction or testing stage with any of her commands yet. Thanks for a perfect pup!

  • I just wanted to give you an update on Isis. She’s been with us for 4 months now and is doing absolutely wonderful. She has been such an awesome addition to our home and she and our other dog, Ethyl (a basset hound) are as close as litter mates! Isis bonded really well with my husband, Mike, who came home from Afghanistan in June. He runs with her every evening and Isis looks forward to that all day long! Our friends who live just around the corner recently purchased a GSD and Isis enjoys playing with him as well.

Isis is current on her vaccinations and takes Frontline and Interceptor monthly. She is on Science Diet large breed puppy food.

My husband has received orders to move to Germany. He will be reporting in October, but the kiddos, puppies and I will be staying at Fort Campbell for a while. Housing isn’t readily available and Army won’t move us until Mike can sign for a suitable home. We are excited about the upcoming move and will keep you posted as we find out more when we’ll be leaving the country.

If you have any other questions about Isis, please feel free to contact me. We are so lucky to have found her and grateful she is such a loving, family dog.

  • I just wanted to give you a quick update on our new puppy – Glock. I could not be more thrilled with him. He appears to be brilliant- probably smarter than me! His ears are standing most of the time now, he’s growing like a weed- 24 pounds at 11 weeks! I think he’s beautiful. He makes me laugh much of the time I watch him. He’s full of energy of course, but gets lots of exercise with Mya- the 60lb. 5 yr old Boxer I already had in the home. The 5 yr old poodle mix and 17 yr old Dachshund “tolerate” his boisterous playing, nipping at him when he gets too rough. The 5 yr old German Shepherd (female)- Freedom, tolerates him as well. She hasn’t really warmed up to him as Mya has. As I told you before, she’s quite docile. There hasn’t been even 1 fight among the crew. Glock is almost 100 percent housebroken already- he’s proven himself to be an extraordinary pet. Glock and I start organized training lessons this coming Monday- that should be a hoot! I’m sure he’s going to try to chew on every other dog in the class! He’s already been to Winder Animal Hospital to see Dr. Powers for his last set of shots. Of course, he checked with no health issues. He already reacts VERY well to “come, sit, no chew, stop, go potty, and no”. He seems to be driven strongly by the desire to please me. I am so fortunate to be able to spend all day every day with him- as I’m not having to work at this time. He has been a blessing. I love him dearly. Thank you so much for carefully choosing him for me and arranging things so you could place a puppy that fit my needs with me so quickly. I couldn’t be more pleased with your selection.

  • Absolutely you can give my address out. Nothing but good things to say about Icon and you guys.

Hated to miss training last week, but my schedule is so easily interrupted with everything we have going on. It is my goal to be at 2 training sessions a month. We’ll see how that goes for me.

Took Icon to “dog appreciation day” at a park in Oak Ridge last week. While I realize he is only a pup, and is apt to let that come out in his behavior sometimes (pet store trip) he acted like he was on display. We covered the whole park which was VERY well attended by many people and lots of dogs. I was completely amazed by his behavior. He stayed on my left and at my knee everywhere we went, sat when I stopped, and walked with his head held up taking everything in as we went along. Several people commented on his good looks and manners. A couple asked if he was really only 7 months old. We went to the flea market Saturday morning, and he performed exactly the same way. It seems he knows people check him out and he wants to put on a show for them. He was perfect when a gentleman asked if he could pet him. No jumping up or moving around. Sat perfectly by my said while the guy rubbed him on the head.

I was so proud of him I called Jennifer on the way out and said “you’re not going to believe how good he was”.

I am attaching a couple more recent pics on this email. I think my photobucket account for him is “open” and it has 70+ pics and about 5 videos if you want to look.

Thanks and I will see you soon.

I just wanted to let you know how “Laynie” is doing, and let ya’ll I know that I think a repeat breeding is a great idea. She is an absolute sport model. I will have to attach some pictures, she has grown up very fast. She is extremely smart and athletic. Sheabsolutes looooooves the water. I am going to enter her in a dock jumping contest as soon as the season comes, she is unbelievable at jumping and swimming. I haven’t worked any protection with her, but she has done very well on obedience. This a great dog from great bloodlines, thank you.

  • I am writing to give you a status update on Talon. Overall we are very happy with him. He has demonstrated to be an extremely smart dog. He is obedient, 90% house trained, started to show protective nature, but friendly at the same time with people we show they are friends, playful, etc. He has been outstanding.

I took him to the Vet this saturday, the contact information of the local vet is….

….I attach some pictures of his life, I think he is a very happy dog 🙂 He has an indoor pen, and outdoor 10×10″ pen and a fenced yard. He sleeps inside at night and during the day I both let him roam free ( most of the time supervised) in the yard and also let him inside the pen, so that he gets used to both. the only small issue I have is that there are little rocks around the house and he is constantly trying to fetch them and chew them. I am paranoid about this, I am constantly having to go out to check to see if he is chewing on this and many times have to go and take them out of his mouth……

Thanks again and best regards to you both

  • Wanted to give you an update on Kaiser. He’s doing great and getting HUGE! Lucky is still not too fond of him when they are in the house but tolerates and even plays with him when they are outside. Attached are some pictures. He’s a momma’s boy for sure which I’m sure is from his time spent with “Momma Kathy”. Pass these pictures on to her so she knows he’s adjusting well. When we start getting close to six months I want to get with Tom about training. Can you give me his contact info?

…. By the way, I think my boy is pretty smart too! He learned sit really easy but of course he’s food driven so that helped. Haha He doesn’t miss a thing and just follows me from room to room when I’m doing household chores and will just lie down and watch me until I move to another room. He’s going to be a great boy and my perfect travel buddy! He’s still small enough that he can fit through the fence, but just barely and only if he sees me or Greg on the other side. I’m hoping within a week he can have more freedom in the yard without us being afraid he will get out.
We are going to the lake house next weekend and stay until the New Year so that will be a fun new adventure for Kaiser. I can’t wait to see his reaction to all the new sites and smells in the woods.
    Thanks!

  • I’d like to thank both you and Shari for introducing us to the newest member of our fam
ily. She was pink girl to you, but she’s Yashika Oswin Vom Sequoyah Haus or Oswin for short to us. She has already made herself quite at home and has spent most of her time sleeping at my feet. She has a bit of a curious aversion to our vinyl floor but other than that seems to love running around. The squeaky tennis ball has already become our fetch toy and when Oswin isn’t ferrying back to me from wherever I’ve tossed it, our cat Zoe is batting it about. Hopefully the two of them will play fetch together, but that may be a bridge too far. Introducing Oswin to Jessica’s grown shepherd Riley was an opportunity to see just how confident little Oswin is. She showed her belly
right away, but never shied away from her and was quick to…cuddle up. She already has such a wonderful personality and we’re looking very forward to growing with her. I’ve attached a few photos and I’m sure I’ll add more as she grows up.

Thank you very much once again!

I took him for a walk and it was hot. When I got back I opened the frig for a water this is what happened. I had to take a few pics. I think he will like winter a little better. I am impressed so far he is not gun shy and loves playing in water.

Chief is doing well and is totally housebroken. He has not had a single accident since last email that I sent you. Chief has a tremendous bite.Toys are getting destroyed quickly so I bought him a large beef bone about 18 in long thinking he would only be able to chew on it and he shattered it. I had to throw it away. I was not expecting him to have that capability yet. I am going to try the largest nylon bone that I can find at the pet store next. Training is going well. The hardest training that I have had so far is getting him to lead with out pulling and his attraction to moving cars when I take him for his walks on lead. I have been training him a lot on the cars over and over everyday. Everything else he picks up and about 15 minutes and does not forget. I have to put him in his kennel when I take a shower or he is in there with me.

Thor is a great pup. He is a world of company and a true companion. He knows when the leash goes on to go to the front door, walk down the walk and get into the truck. He enjoys looking out the window if we are in the outskirts of town. If we are in town, he generally sleeps! When it is just he, Fluttie and myself, he executes all basic commands quickly and flawlessly by hand signal or verbal command. If any of the Grandsons are around, he is totally ballistic for about 15 minutes or so. I think he will outgrow this in time as he matures.

Thor has developed beautifully. He is a very large and powerful animal. We took him to the lake Saturday for a ride on the pontoon boat and play in the water. He swims really well with those huge feet of his! When we are at the lake, he enjoys playing with any children that happen by the island (Sandbar). He usually goes through 3 tennis balls each trip. He gets excited and bites them and they sink! He gets a least one bath each week and when it rained out our trip to the lake last weekend, that evening, I heard him bark and found him in the bathroom standing in the bathtub!

I will send pictures as soon as my camera battery gets here! Only been on order since the 12th of never! Thanks again for choosing Thor for us!
